Chapter 1217

Ian's gaze was locked on Bernard, and then he spat out, "Cunning."

This mess was supposed to be their superior's problem, but now this old man had dragged Ian into it

without a moment's hesitation.

Bernard's eyes narrowed, "I’ll take care of your father's side. You should be aware that I'm under a lot

of pressure too. Otherwise, some of us with more radical tendencies might have already drugged Maja

and your brother. Remember, everyone in our position has made sacrifice for the country. Personal

attachments mean nothing in the face of national duty. With great power comes great responsibility.

People reaching our position are all willing to forsake everything at any time. Those who can't give up

anything will amount to nothing."

A wave of hostility washed over Ian.

Bernard raised his hand and gave him a pat on the shoulder.

"And one more thing, forgive your grandfather. That old man lived a carefree life, but died with regrets.

Your brother's needle marks would shock anyone, let alone him. He favored your brother at the end,

which is far better than what the Raymond family did."

Ian remained silent, and Bernard feared he would brood over it.

"Ian, we're on the same side, and I'm the only one who knows about your secret identity. Even if it costs

me my life, I'll protect you."

Maja didn't go to the office today, instead staying in Greenfield Gardens, constantly researching

information about Dissociative Identity Disorder.

It was a mental illness. In some cases, the primary personality was aware of the secondary one, while

in others, neither personality was aware of the other.

Records showed that some people had split into more than a hundred different personalities, each

living a different life every day.

Sitting at her computer, she felt that Patric's gaze was familiar.

It was invasive, like a maggot gnawing at her bones.

Her fingertips clutched the mouse, her eyes scanning the screen ceaselessly.

Finally, she sighed softly and decided to head back to the office.

It was evening now, and the online uproar had died down. People were no longer slandering Maja or

the company.

Shawn's popularity had bounced back, and for now, the company was fine.

Still, Maja had people keeping a close eye on every show's progress, especially with Dylan lurking in

the shadows.

She was still unsure of Dylan's tactics.

Upon entering the top floor of the company, she saw Shawn standing alone at the end of the hallway,

his agent nowhere in sight.

She approached him.

"Shawn, why are you standing here alone? Is there anything wrong with the production?"

Most of the people on the top floor weren't around tonight. Everyone had been pulling all-nighters

recently, and now they were keen to catch up on sleep as soon as work ended.novelbin

The hallway lights began to flicker, and just as Maja was about to step back, she saw the man turn

around.

Her pupils contracted, and before she could call for help, she passed out.

Ten minutes later, the only employees still in the building noticed a janitor pushing a trash can

downstairs, a routine sight that attracted little attention.

The janitor pushed the trash can all the way to the underground parking lot, lifted the lid, and revealed

an unconscious Maja inside.

He pulled out a syringe and injected her with some drug, then loaded her into the trunk.

Maja was completely oblivious.

The man then got into the driver's seat, his hands covered in thin gloves that looked no different from

his skin to the naked eye.

He was thoroughly disguised, unrecognizable unless they looked closely.
