Chapter 1215

Patric stood still, his expression glum, watching the departing car until it was nothing more than a

shadow. His hand, hanging by his side, slowly clenched into a fist.

A cold, sardonic smile played around his lips.

Maja wasn't sure whether to believe Patric's words or not. Steve from the Raymond family was, after

all, on Patric's side. And now that Ian was taken away, higher-ups would undoubtedly detain him undernovelbin

some pretext.

But Ian was no ordinary man. He wouldn't be daunted by this.

And the fact that he willingly went with them indicated that he had some confidence up his sleeve.

So, she decided to wait for him steadfastly, believing in his return.

Back at Greenfield Gardens, she received a text message from Ian.

[Take care of yourself, and trust me.]

This message instantly settled her restless heart.

Meanwhile, Ian was sitting in a solemn office, facing several distinguished individuals.

The one leading them was an elderly man who asked a cup of coffee for him.

"I don't fancy your coffee," Ian waved it off.

The old man, dressed in a suit and leaning on a cane, shot him a piercing glance.

"Do you think we invited you here only for tasting coffee?"

Apparently, this old man was at a highest position among them. His words carried a hint of menace. His

hair was white as snow, and he commanded respect without even trying.

“I’ve told him before, it’s not that good to have many kids. He couldn’t even died peacefully.”

The person he mentioned was Holden, and only he dared to talk about him like that.

Ian's casual demeanor vanished at the mention of his grandfather. The smile slowly faded from his

face.

"We've discussed your situation, Ian. None of us want to make things hard for you. But you should

understand that the microchip is extremely vital to us. Many geniuses have fallen at that research base

before your brother arrived. The data he holds is the only complete and successful one. If we do

nothing, we would be letting those who have sacrificed their lives down."

Bernard sighed in a senile way.

"I've known you and your grandfather for years. I know your nature. Your father wants me to detain you,

to buy some time for Eric and Maja. But I know it's unfair to you."

After Bernard finished speaking, he cast a few glances at others around.

“We two need a moment.”

Others all were big shots inland, but they defer to what Bernard said, walking out the place unhurriedly.

Once the door was shut, their secrets were safe from prying ears.

Bernard poured a cup of coffee for Ian himself.

Standing up and taking the cup, Ian spoke in a light tone, "Grandpa Bernard, you needn't have. I

should do this for you instead."

Bernard chuckled, "You've always been a cheeky one. If only you were as close with Steve, maybe the

Raymond family wouldn't favor your brother over you."

Ian fell silent, his expression replaced by a cold demeanor.

A few minutes later, Bernard broke the silence.

"Tell me your thought. Your father's suggestion has been accepted by the majority. He is your father,

and if he doesn't care for you, others won't either."

"I know your son also died at that research base, and I've heard about those fallen geniuses you talked

about. I understand the ordeal they went through. The base has existed for years, and only when Eric

arrived, it finally made some breakthrough. I know the process is arduous, and I respect his sacrifices.

Eric is truly remarkable."

In this world, peace is often bought with the sacrifices of unsung heroes.

Several people had died abroad after Bernard's son.

Their bodies could not be transported back, for fear of revealing their identities and causing

international conflict.

Thus, they were left as nameless heroes in foreign lands.

Eric was the only one who had managed to infiltrate and retrieve the research data.

Bernard gently cooled off his coffee, his eyes calm and serene.

"Eric confessed to us that he was used for experiments. We found needle marks on his body. It's hard

to believe he managed to come out alive. He achieved what others couldn't, and thus, the higher-ups

can't refuse his demands. He wants Maja."
