Chapter 1213

Ian hung up his phone, only to hear Zoey's mobile ringing from inside the room.

She was as jittery as a spooked dove, still clinging tightly to Maja.

Even Maja, herself, could sense something was off and couldn't help but ask.

"What's wrong? Tired? Want Jeff to take you home?"

"No!"

Zoey quickly grabbed a file near her, "Ms. Pennyfeather, I'd like to stay and work overtime with you."

The skin around her eyes was tinged with dark circles, a clear sign she hadn't had a good rest in a

while.

Maja sighed, "Your phone is ringing."

Zoey didn't dare to hang up, so she just muted it.

She saw a new message pop up on her screen from that man.

[Should I come in?]

She flinched, the last trace of color draining from her face.

Slowly, she stood up.

"Ms. Pennyfeather, I'm really tired. I'll head home now. You should rest, too."

Maja attempted to see her out, but was stopped by Ian who had just entered the room.

"Someone's escorting her home. No need to fret over her."

Maja finally sat down again.

Ian walked to her side. Seeing she had already completed her work, he gently pushed her back into her

chair.

Maja tilted her head to avoid his kiss.

"I feel like Zoey's hiding something. I need to check on her."

But Ian scooped her up in his arms and headed for the master bedroom.

No sooner had he laid her down on the bed, his phone rang again. The incoming call made his face

darken, it was Steve Raymond.

His cohabitation with Maja was a secret. Steve found he hadn’t drawn any line with her, so he was

coming over with Eric to discuss the matter.

Ian slowly released Maja, grabbing his jacket from the nearby chair.

Maja stood up with him, "What's going on?"

"My dad and brother are coming over. I didn't show up to my brother's welcome party last night. Nownovelbin

that dad know I'm living with you, he'll definitely have something to say."

Maja, not understanding Steve's intentions, pressed further.

"What is he going to say?"

"Send you to my brother."

Maja was instantly furious, "What do they take me for?"

Just as she had finished speaking, her phone buzzed with a new message. Without having to guess, it

was most likely from Patric.

His message was as obnoxious as ever.

[I've sorted out the document I mentioned last time. Maja, do you want to take a look before I decide

whether to show it to Ian?]

Maja froze in anger, her hand by her side clenching tightly.

Patric casually sent a second message.

[I'm on my way over with my dad. Come out to meet me, or I will send out this document now.]

Maja knew he was capable of doing so.

But going out to meet him? That would be hard to explain to Ian.

As she was caught in her indecision, Ian took her phone and called Patric.

Patric, unaware that it was Ian calling, answered immediately.

"Maja?"

"If there's anything in the future, discuss it with me."

Hearing Ian's voice, Patric felt a surge of rage well up inside him.

"Oh? Even the stuff about sex?"

Ian pulled Maja into his arms, responding to Patric with her right there.

"You've only slept with her once. What's there to be proud of? I've been with her for so long and I don't

flaunt it. Eric, your tactics seem to have gotten pretty low-class since you've been back."

Patric's smile vanished instantly, and just then, a series of headlights illuminated their car from the

front.

The driver, startled, hit the brakes. Only then did he realize that a dozen or so cars were parked about

a hundred meters from Greenfield Gardens, effectively blocking the road.

The lights of those cars were now on, and they were high-beams, blinding them.

Under such intense light, Patric's face darkened even more.

Steve raised his hand to block the light, intuitively knowing who was behind this.

He immediately called Ian, but no one answered.

Ian had already pushed Maja back onto the bed, kissing her passionately.

"Don't let his words shake you!"
