Chapter 1197

"No, dining with him was just to prevent him from spouting nonsense to you."

The moment she finished speaking, Ian pulled off a smile, but it didn't seem genuine.

"Afraid he'll talk nonsense to me?"

Maja pressed her lips, eyes downcast, not willing to delve into the details, because it would lead to the

incident between her and Eric that night.

Ian had been investigating. Apparently, he was bothered by that night.

Not to mention him, even Maja herself was bothered.

"So, you dine with him personally, let him kiss you, hug you, just to keep him from blabbering in front of

me."

He leaned slightly towards her, his voice filled with sarcasm, "You've made quite a sacrifice."

She wanted to say she couldn't move just now, but he stood up straight, his eyes growing distant.

"Eric just left. Aren't you going to go after him?"

At these words, Maja felt as if something was clenching her heart, it was unbearably painful.

Her eyes immediately reddened, her throat hurt, and her head throbbed.

Ian, however, did not look at her. He turned around and left.

On the other side, Patric was examining the drug between his fingers.

Eric had been a renowned genius at the research institute. The drugs he developed were at least

twenty years ahead of current technology. This particular drug, once it touched the skin, could render

the person immobile, unable to utter a word for a short period.novelbin

He sneered, turning on the faucet to wash off the drug residue from his fingers.

Eric's voice echoed in his mind.

"Patric, how much do you know?"

Even the drug-making process?

Patric methodically cleaned his fingers, a smirk played upon his lips.

"Eric, are you scared? Scared that I'll completely replace you? Seeing the woman you love looking at

you with disgust, does it hurt? The suffering you endured at the research base, there was no one to pity

you. Your brother only thinks you shouldn't have come back, shouldn't have competed for the same

woman. Eric, I can feel your emotions. You don't really like this brother, do you?"

Patric reached for a tissue paper nearby, wiping his slender fingers dry.

"You don't like him, but you never thought of dealing with him. But why don't you like him? From what I

understand of you, Eric, you're gentle as water, sympathetic towards the world. How could you not

sympathize with your own brother? He's always been living in your shadow. How pitiful."

Patric threw the tissue into a nearby trash can, glancing at his reflection in the mirror.

If he truly was another personality induced by those researchers, he should find this face familiar,

natural even.

But deep down, there was a strong repulsion, even a sense of unfamiliarity and rejection towards this

face.

"Eric, concerning the content of the experiment, you must be keeping something from me. But I don't

care anymore. Now, I just want you to disappear. I'm slowly merging with your memories, and surely I'll

remember the entire experiment soon. Then you'll completely disappear, and I'll live on in your stead.

Too bad, you never told Maja yourself. Every day you were tortured, you thought of her, desperate for

her."

Patric's eyes turned cold. Thinking of Ian's performance just now, he chuckled.

"Your brother, in front of you, has absolutely no confidence. It's clear the shadow you've cast on him is

quite deep. What a pity, everyone says he's a genius, the pride of God. But who knows about the

inferiority complex hiding deep within him."

Patric thought Eric wouldn't respond, but as he got into his car, Eric's voice echoed in his mind.

"You'll regret this sooner or later."

Patric simply raised an eyebrow, dismissing it as empty threats.
