Chapter 1052

The furrow in Ian's brow deepened as he tossed aside his cigarette.

"Didn't Drew say Maja was the child born out of Clara's infidelity?"

Fitch rifled through the documents in front of him, the truth becoming even more unbearable.

"Seemed like it. Clara was a woman of the night over in Crystalbrook Valley. You know how things were

over twenty years ago; the law wasn't as tight as it is now. Drew was a thug who landed himself in

prison for a few years for messing with the neighbor's daughter. When he got out, he married Clara.

Drew had a crippled brother in the family. Drew had caught Clara seducing his brother, and he

suspected that when Maja was born, she might be his brother's child. That's why he sold her away. The

hospital records even show that the crippled brother was the father."

The truth was even more distasteful. A mother who had an affair with her husband's brother, resulting

in her. And the biological father was a poor cripple with a questionable character.

"Ian, I've had the couple interrogated. That was the information we've gathered. I've always had people

in Crystalbrook Valley, but that situation is a tricky one. Clara and Drew's information has been

thoroughly examined by the circle. You know how it's been since the incident in Solstice Spire, many

families have sent people over, fearing something unknown happening."

So Crystalbrook Valley, that remote and impoverished place, was always under everyone's

surveillance.

Ian lit another cigarette.

If Fitch's people had found these results, then if he were to investigate again, the outcome would be the

same.

Even if he had great capabilities, events from twenty years ago were impossible to verify, especially

when those involved had disappeared without a trace.

He did not light his second cigarette but merely held it in his mouth.

After hanging up the call, he set down his cigarette and returned upstairs.

Maja was awake, standing on the balcony, lost in thought.

Ian walked up behind her, noticing a glass of water in her hand. She'd probably woken up thirsty.

"Maja, you should go to sleep."

Hearing his voice, Maja set down her glass of water.

"I'm sorry, I've been swamped recently. The company needs me constantly, and tonight, there was an

incident with Wilma."

She rubbed her forehead with her hand.novelbin

"When something happened to Wilma, her fans go crazy."

Ian didn't respond, instead taking a minute before slowly moving towards her and wrapping her in his

arms.

"You should sleep."

Maja looked at him and nodded.

An hour later, Ian heard a soft sob from beside him.

She was murmuring something in her sleep, "Mom."

Ian quickly got up and felt her forehead.

She had a fever.

He'd sensed something was off when he saw her standing on the balcony.

To the outside world, Maja seemed strong. Even if she was humiliated at a party, she didn't care much

about other people's opinions.

But at that moment, Ian knew that only Lillian was Maja's emotional hang-up.

When her biological parents appeared, all her past longing for Lillian came rushing back.

He found some fever reducers and fed them to her, then wiped her down with a damp cloth in an

attempt to lower her temperature physically.

Maja felt as if she was being roasted on a fire all night.

When she woke up, her vision was blurry.

She heard Ian talking to someone.

"Keep an eye on this project. Are the people I sent over assisting you well?"

"Yes, thanks to Mr. Raymond, everyone feel a bit more relaxed recently."

The response came from Elvis.

Maja furrowed her brows in confusion. Didn't she fall asleep in Greenfield Gardens? Why was Elvis

here?

Ian's voice echoed again.

"These are the documents for the next week. Let her rest well, and don't disturb her."

"Okay."

Elvis respected Ian and left with a pile of documents.

Lately, the Raymond Corporation had been relaxed. During Maja's unconsciousness, Ian temporarily

took over the operations of the Star Movie group.

Maja slept for three days, during which Ian didn't rest. He worked overtime to finish a week's worth of

work early.

When Maja opened her eyes, she was met with Ian's bloodshot eyes.

Several empty coffee cups were scattered in front of him.
