Chapter 1039

She scoffed, standing up, her tone turning frosty.

"Let's discuss this after the DNA test results."

Clara immediately reached out, gripping her hand.

"Maja, you're not going to reject us because we're poor, are you? It wasn't us who abandoned you, and

you were actually stolen. Your dad and I were devastated."

Maja shook her hand off, her eyes ice-cold.

"As I said, let's wait for the results."

At this, Clara flared up, but she still held her tongue.

"At least give us your phone number so we can find you when the results are out."

But Maja was already heading towards the elevator, clearly not wanting to waste her breath on them.

Clara, however, was persistent.novelbin

"Maja, didn't you hear what your mother said?"

Maja halted in her tracks, the glare she directed at them sharp as knives.

"I don't care who you are or who sent you, and I don't have time to waste with you. We'll talk after the

DNA test."

Clara paled, standing frozen on the spot.

Maja headed towards the elevator again, this time unimpeded.

Once she left, Drew sighed heavily.

"You shouldn't have said that. We've just found our daughter, and you should have said something

nicer. Who wouldn't realize you're after her money with what you just said? Do you expect her to smile

at that?"

"Drew, then what do you suggest we do? She is our daughter. The DNA test confirmed it. It's not like

the hospital could've messed up. I think she just doesn't want to acknowledge us because we're poor."

"Whether she acknowledges us or not, the blood ties are there. We need her help and money to save

our son. Don’t make your intentions too obvious from the start. Let's stay in Greenfield and try to work

things out with her slowly."

Back in the elevator, Maja's expression darkened.

She called the person she had sent with her hair sample earlier.

"Keep a close eye on things over there. Try to get Dr. Phelps from the hospital to oversee the results.

I'm worried someone might play dirty."

"Understood, Ms. Pennyfeather. You can rest assured."

The one replying was Maja's bodyguard from Rosewood Manor, who she had stationed on the first

floor of her company to prevent any disturbances.

The bodyguard had handed over the hair sample to Dr. Phelps and explained the situation.

Dr. Phelps recalled the couple that had come for a DNA test a few days ago, but that test had been

conducted by another doctor, a veteran from the hospital, so there was no chance of an error.

"Dr. Herrington, Ms. Pennyfeather requests that you personally oversee this."

Dr. Phelps nodded. As he was acquainted with Maja, he agreed to prioritize her case.

Maja was restless throughout the day at the office.

Ever since Dr. Phelps had mentioned her origins, she had been on edge, and her nervousness was

now intensifying.

Three hours later, she called her bodyguard.

"Are the results out yet?"

"Ms. Pennyfeather, they just came out. Dr. Herrington handed them to me."

"Did he say anything?"

"No."

A wave of apprehension washed over Maja.

She immediately had the bodyguard bring over the DNA test results. Upon opening them, they showed

a positive match for a familial relationship.

So, Drew was her biological father?

She called Dr. Phelps.

"Dr. Herrington, regarding my DNA test, did it take place under your direct supervision?"

Dr. Phelps nodded, rubbing his forehead.

"I personally oversaw this one."

Maja's heart sank. Dr. Phelps offered an explanation.

"Over the years, there have been many cases of lost children, so the testing center is always busy.

Orphans who come in for testing are usually compared with parents who have reported missing

children. Over the past twenty years, the hospital has helped reunite over a hundred lost children with

their families. It's a well-established process, and it's one of the reasons why I chose to work at this

hospital."

Because he could access these DNA test records.

Maja remained silent on the other end, but Dr. Phelps added,

"Finding your parents is a good thing."

Dr. Phelps was a doctor, but he wasn't particularly empathetic, so he couldn’t understand how Maja

was feeling over the phone.

"Maja, congratulations on finding your family."

Maja forced a smile, at a loss for words.

After hanging up, the receptionist came up to report that the couple from this morning had returned.

Reluctantly, Maja went down to see them.

Clara and Drew obviously already knew about the DNA test results. It seemed the hospital had

informed them again.

With a beaming smile, Clara stepped forward, gripping Maja's hand.

"Maja, you've seen the DNA test results too, haven't you? We wouldn't lie to you, and the hospital is

very reliable. They've helped many families. I'm really happy to see my daughter has grown up so well

and become a CEO. Could you help with your brother's case? He was falsely accused back then."

Drew also chimed in, "Maja, your mom and I are strangers here. If the hospital hadn't suddenly

contacted us, we would've given up."

Drew was more tactful than Clara. Clara was blatantly asking for money, but he was mentioning being

strangers in a strange land, hinting that Maja should accommodate them, find them a place to stay, or

even let them live in the mansion with her.
