Upon hearing this, Maja shot up from her chair.
Harden chuckled on the other end, then sighed breezily.
“I’ve been patient, thinking you’d agree soon enough. But you’ve wasted too much of my time, so I hadto resort to this.”
Maja felt a surge of anger in her chest.
She thought back to Neil’s funeral, the way she’d carefully held onto the urn.
“Ms. Pennyfeather, Neil’s ashes are with me. What I gave you were the remains of some crematedstray dogs, just enough to fill your urn. I didn’t think it would come to this,” Harden said casually, “Areyou ready to talk now?”

Maja forced herself to stay cool. She couldn’t fall for that woman’s trap, “Where shall we meet, MissDickens?”
Harden sent her an address.
“It’s here. Laura is in a coma and may not wake up. Ms. Pennyfeather, you should know when to stop. Iheard you’re not Neil’s biological daughter. I’ll give you five million. It’s a big win for you. There’s noneed to be so stubborn.”
Maja hung up the phone.
Harden chuckled, returning to her conversation with her business partner as if nothing had happened..
Maja sat back down; she was stunned that the Tuttles could do something so despicable. Switching theashes, how could they do such a thing?
She took a deep breath and tried her best to keep her composure.
Meanwhile, lan had just arrived at the Raymond Mansion.
The house was filled with a pleasant aroma. He walked into the dining room to find a table full of food.
Edith and Selena were already waiting.
“lan, you haven’t eaten yet, have you? Come and sit down.”
lan handed his coat to a servant and rolled up his sleeves.
Selena immediately noticed the agarwood bracelet on his wrist.
“Is that agarwood? Why are you wearing this all of a sudden.”
lan looked at her and said, “Is there a problem with it?”
“Your brother Eric loved these bracelets, but he couldn’t wear them because of his job.
Selena grabbed lan’s wrist, sniffing the aroma of the agarwood. Her eyes welled up with tears.
“Eric used to have one just like this. He would grind it himself. The powdered wood was used forincense, it could fill the whole house with its fragrance. I didn’t expect you to wear one too.”
lan felt uneasy and pulled his hand back.
Across the table, Edith coughed twice which was a signal for Selena to stop mentioning Eric. They hadother matters to attend to tonight.
Selena caught on and started serving lan, “lan, eat up. We didn’t get you anything for your birthday, theother day, so Edith and I cooked this meal ourselves.”
lan wasn’t hungry, but hearing that they’d prepared the meal themselves, he started to eat.
This was the first time he’d been treated like this as far as he could remember.
He didn’t have high expectations, but it was better than nothing.
“This soup was made by Edith. Consider it a birthday gift.”
lan tasted the soup. It had a strange flavor, but he still said, “Thank you, Edith.”
After dinner, lan finally asked, “What is Eric’s thing?” Seeing Edith and Selena so excited, could it havesomething to do with research data?
Just as he said that he saw a woman walking towards them from a distance. It was Carlene.

Edith said, “This is what Eric left behind. Now that you’re divorced, you can take Carlene home. Itwould fulfill Eric’s wish. You two should settle your relationship tonight. Ideally, Carlene should getpregnant.”
