Chapter 450

lan pushed the pedal to the metal, not even having the time to ponder why he was feeling so anxiousand even a bit scared.

The journey that usually took an hour, he managed to finish in just forty minutes. But he had barelycovered any distance when he heard a noise behind

him.

It turned out that a massive boulder had rolled down and blocked the road. The way back wasinterrupted.

Still, he didn’t stop. He continued driving towards Riverfield.

Visibility was next to none on the road. He practically bulldozed his way through every obstacle until hereached the cottage. He spotted the car parked outside right away.

He quickly got out of the car and knocked on the door of the other car.

Maja was slumped over the steering wheel, clearly shaken.

She had been left alone in the car in the midst of a tornado, with the wind battering against thewindows and growing louder by the minute. “Penny!”

lan knocked on the window again.

Maja heard someone calling her name faintly. She quickly turned around and saw lan–outside thewindow. She was so surprised, she could hardly believe her eyes. She hastily opened the car door.

But before she could even speak, a gush of wind filled her mouth with sand.

She was coughing nonstop.

lan quickly pulled her out of the car, shut the car door, and’unlocked the cottage door with the keys.

Once the heavy door was shut, the noise of the wind was completely blocked out.

Maja wasn’t used to such situations, so she kept coughing; her face even got dirty. When she wipedher face with a tissue, it came off covered in dust.

lan was no better.

Maja coughed for a minute and then suddenly remembered something. She quickly grabbed lan’s arm, checked him over, and breathed a sigh of relief when she saw he was alright.

“Mr. Raymond, you’re really playing with fire.”

lan frowned at her comment.

“Do you think I came from the villa?”

Maja did think so.

lan lowered his gaze. “I was only a mile away from you.”

Only then did Maja realize.

Then she said, “Still, it’s too risky to go out in this kind of weather.”

Before she could finish her sentence, he interrupted her, saying, “Oh, now you realize it’s risky?”

Maja was silent for a while, then finally managed to say, “I was worried about you.”novelbin

If anything happened to him, the Raymond family would definitely not let her off the hook.

But now it was lan who was silent.

He raised his eyebrows slightly, looking a bit uncomfortable, and pushed her away a bit, saying, “Gowash your face.”

Maja nodded and quickly went to the faucet to wash off the dust on her face and rinse her mouth withclean water.

After washing, she sat down on a chair nearby.

“Mr. Raymond, you should also wash your face.”

lan was in a sorry state; his suit was covered in dust, and so was his face.

He went to the faucet and cleaned the dust off his face.

But there were definitely no fresh clothes here. After all, this cottage was only recently cleaned up bythe heads of Crystalbrook Valley.

Before, it had only water and electricity.

This 50–square–meter place felt unusually warm in the middle of a tornado.

After washing his face, he sat down on a chair and looked at Maja.

Neither of them knew what to say, and outside the window, the sky had already changed, filled withdust and sand.

Maja went to the window, breaking the awkward silence in the room.

“This is my first time seeing a tornado.”

lan sat in his chair, scoffed coldly, and was about to say something when a loud noise came fromoutside.

Maja turned around and saw a tree fall in the distance. Her face immediately turned serious.

The tornado was much more violent than she had imagined. She thought she could just spend thenight in the car, but if it weren’t for lan bringing the keys and taking her inside, she might have beenswept away by the wind at any moment.

“Mr. Raymond, I’m glad you’re here. I saw a tree get blown down outside, and I couldn’t see anythingelse.”

The visibility was so poor that she could barely see the fallen tree.

She didn’t dare to open the window, and she could still hear the sound of the wind and sand hitting thewindow.

It was really rare for a tornado to hit this area.

The cottage might be small, but it had been tested multiple times and had multi–layered windows.

Maja was scared. She closed another layer of the window and heard lan say behind her, “Now youknow to be scared? I don’t know what you were thinking when you drove out.”

Maja turned red with embarrassment. She had made several calls to lan, but no one answered. Shesaw the sky changing and was worried they would be stranded on the road.

If anything happened to lan in Crystalbrook Valley, not only would all the heads of Crystalbrook Valleybe implicated, but she and the Pennyfeather family would definitely be blamed!

But she couldn’t deny that when she turned around and saw him outside the window, she felt like herheart was filled with sand. With every beat, it rubbed against her chest, causing a ticklish, tinglingsensation.
