Chapter 1393

Duke broke out in sweat; the concept of not hitting women was absent from his cognition. However, he

was in a hospital now, and the Haskins family were just behind that door, so he restrained himself.

As the sharp pain subsided, he slowly straightened up, giving Zoey an impassive stare. Zoey frowned

and turned her attention away from Duke, instead focusing her concern on the room.

After standing for two grueling hours, numbness spreading through her body, there finally came a stir

from inside the room.

Under the watchful eyes of everyone present, Fitch's eyelids twitched. Mia was the first to react,

grasping his hand in hers urgently.

“Fitch!”

Fitch opened his eyes, gazing indifferently at the ceiling.

Tears streamed down Mia's face, “How do you feel, Fitch? Do you remember anything?”

Fitch's head ached slightly, but after all, it was only a minor surgery. He raised his hand to massage his

temples and slowly sat up with assistance.

The rest of the Haskins family looked uneasy, with many of them hastily putting on a facade.

“It’s good to see you’re alright, Fitch.”

“Yeah, it’s a blessing you woke up. I couldn’t believe you were gone.”

The truth was, none of them had bothered to double-check the body before hastily arranging the

funeral.

Mia’s gaze shot outside to where Zoey stood, a malicious glint in her eyes.

“Fitch, there’s this sleazy woman who took advantage of you while you were out. She tricked you,

claiming she was your wife. Disgusting, right? You can’t let her get away with that!”

Fitch had just woken up and found the clamor irritating.

With a face full of inquiry, Mia wondered, before the surgery, her brother was protective of Zoey. What

about now?

“Fitch, you wanna settle the score with that woman?”

Fitch’s brows knitted together, his tone icy, “Everyone, out. I need Tyler.”

He had something important to confirm with Tyler. Zoey was not mentioned at all.

Mia smirked triumphantly, “Tyler’s just outside waiting; I’ll get him!”

The rest of the Haskins family didn’t dare linger and quickly exited the room. Mia was the last to leave.

With a snort of disdain, she slapped Zoey without hesitation.

“Dream’s over, bitch. My brother’s awake and he didn’t even think to ask about you. You might as well

leave and save yourself the embarrassment.”

Zoey clutched her face, stubbornly insisting, “I want to get in and ask him a few questions.”

Mia’s temper flared. Did this lowlife really think she could climb up their family tree? She gestured to

her two bodyguards.

“You two, throw her out!”

Zoey’s voice escalated as she gripped the door handle tightly, “Fitch! I need to speak to you!”

Separated by just a door, Fitch could hear her voice, tinged with desperation and resolve. But he said

nothing, merely leaning back and turning his gaze to the window.

Mia, hearing no reply from her brother, grew even bolder. She grabbed Zoey’s hair, “How low can you

get? After the beating from our family that night, you still dare come near my brother? Let me tell you,

every time you show up, I’ll make sure you regret it! Get lost!”

Tears fell from Zoey's eyes; she didn’t feel any pain in her body, only obstinately repeating the words.

“I just want to speak with him. Just a few words.”

Fitch's voice finally came through, but it struck Zoey like a series of slaps across her face.

“Zoey, can't you take a hint?”

Fitch’s emotions were rarely so exposed, so impatient. Even when he used to insult her, he was always

detached. Now, through the door, his tone was not only irritable but also filled with disgust.

Zoey suddenly remembered Ian's words, warning her not to be too hopeful about Fitch's reaction upon

waking.

Her tears fell harder. A few hours ago, it felt like heaven, and now she was slapped back into hell.

She timidly cracked the door open, her voice choked.

“Don’t you want Ozzy either?”novelbin

Fitch's frown deepened, “What Ozzy? Why are you so eager to show up at the hospital? Zoey, have

you forgotten who you are?”

His words were cool and sobering, freezing Zoey in place.

Fitch looked up at her, “I find women who throw themselves at me repulsive.”
