lan was indeed waiting for Maja at that moment, as she had promised to join him for dinner atGreenfield Gardens that day. He had specially taken an early shift and had instructed the kitchen tostart preparing while he was still busy at work.

But Maja couldn’t hear her anymore. Her mind was a mess, and she fell asleep on the desk withinseconds of settling down.
She was in such a deep sleep that she didn’t even react to the ringing phone.

“Ms. Pennyfeather is still at work.”
