“I’m not too sure. She said she was just there for fun, and I didn’t ask further.”
“For fun?” Pierre repeated.
How can she be in the mood to have fun? he wondered. That pipsqueak actually went out to havefun? However, when he gave it a second thought, it didn’t seem right to him at all.
“You said there were three bidders for this thing?” he asked.
“Yes.”
The moment Megan disembarked from the plane, she received a call from the Lake Family askingher to rush to the hospital as soon as possible. Without wasting a single second, she went straightto the hospital.
Initially, she had thought that an elder in the family was in critical condition, but she saw that it wasactually Finneas when she entered the ward!
Since everyone knew that the both of them were in the midst of a divorce, the Lake Family were notpleasant to Megan at all, especially Finneas’ mother, Judy, who lashed at her harshly while pointinga finger at her.
“Your man is bedridden, and you’re not even by his side? How do you call yourself his wife? Is thishow you take care of my son? You’re a total jinx! Nothing good has happened ever since Finneasmarried you!”
“That’s enough! Let me have some peace and get out!” Finneas shouted in frustration, and the roomfell silent all of a sudden.
After all, he was the patient, and Judy couldn’t help but feel sorry for her son. Hence, after glaringfiercely at Megan, she said, “Rest well then, Finneas.” Turning to Megan, she continued, “Take careof him well, or you’ll be hearing from me if anything happens to him!”
Thereafter, everyone left the room, leaving Megan with Finneas.
Actually, he missed her a lot during the past couple of days when he was hospitalized. Whenever hethought of the things Selena told him, he felt a stab through his heart and would miss Megan evenmore, reminded of her goodness. Although she was a little cocky and arrogant, she was really goodto him and would always find ways to make him happy.
Sitting next to the bed, Megan cried, “Why did you become like this, Finneas? Who was the onewho beat you up so ruthlessly? Tell me and I’ll settle the scores with him!”
As she spoke, tears began rolling down her cheeks, and he tried to comfort her. “Don’t cry. I’malright,” he said calmly. In fact, he sounded so calm that one would feel sorry for him.
“Finneas, what happened exactly? Which b*stard was it? Tell me! Just tell me who it was!”
“It was Pierre Fowler.”
He hadn’t told anyone that it was Pierre who had beaten him up, merely saying it was a group ofmen after crossing a local thug on the streets. Shocked, Megan knew that Pierre was a person theycouldn’t offend. So she guessed that it must have had something to do with Selena.

“I’ll tell you the truth, then,” she began. “I made a trip to Springvale this time to investigate Selenabecause I find it uncanny that she would suddenly return and become the president of JNS
Corporation. Also, everything that happened after her return tells me that things are not as simpleas it seems.” Wiping away her tears, she continued, “Just as I thought, I found out that she got toher position today because she slept with an influential figure in Springvale. However, I couldn’t findout who that influential man is, but he’s said to be a very powerful man who has businesses withboth the authorities and the underground world. The people in Springvale advised against furtherinvestigations or I’ll be in trouble. That’s why I stopped.”
Silently, Finneas listened to everything she said.
“She’s no longer that innocent girl that she used to be, but a slut and indecent woman who haddone many unspeakable things in JNS Corporation. Not only that, the reason she returned this timeis for revenge. She wants to destroy me, you, Meredith, and the entire Yard Family!”
