Though Justin cared about benefits a lot, he had admitted that Louis couldn’t marry a wife with a better
family background than Rebecca. Louis’ reputation was already ruined.
But Rebecca was too weak to control her husband. Her son was not close to her, and she couldn’t
teach her daughter well, either.
If Max was still alive, Justin would still take his daughter-in-law seriously, but now that Max was gone
and Lucas was not close to Rebecca, Justin could just vent his anger on her.
He paused for a moment and said, “Whatever. I don’t care if she heard it or not.”
Even if Justin decided to welcome Louis’ wife to the Thomas family, Rebecca wouldn’t dare to have any
objections.

Justin frowned and said, “Fine. Tell her to come up later.”

The two of them stood on the stairs on the first floor. That was not a place for talking.
“Let’s go to the garden and talk there.”
Rebecca then hurried to go downstairs, afraid that Lucas might refuse her.
Lucas frowned and followed Rebecca.
The two walked to the corner of the garden. The servants had done trimming the plants, so no one was
there. It was quiet, a perfect place for talking.
Rebecca looked up at Lucas. Lucas had been very indifferent since he was a child, so Rebecca rarely
had close conversations with her youngest son.
Rebecca thought for a while and then carefully said, “I saw the news online today. It says Jessica…”
Lucas frowned and said, “What’s your point?”
Rebecca saw Lucas frown and was even more at a loss. “Lucas, don’t misunderstand me. I just want
you to be happy. If you and Jessica get married again, you two can move out. There will be fewer
conflicts in that case. Well, you must have your own thoughts. I won’t interfere. I’m just offering a piece
of advice.”
Lucas looked at Rebecca and thought of what Justin had said.
In fact, Rebecca was quite miserable. She had been married into the Thomas family for forty years. Her
husband could not stay with her, and her father-in-law did not like her.
Sometimes, Lucas wondered what kept Rebecca here. If Rebecca had been half ambitious as Jessica,
the Thomas family wouldn’t have been so suffocating.
Rebecca waited for a while, yet Lucas still did not say anything. He just gazed at Rebecca.
Lucas’ gaze made Rebecca feel guilty. She smiled awkwardly. “Lucas, I just want you to be happy.”
“Have you been happy all these years here?”
Rebecca did not expect Lucas to suddenly ask such a question. She paused for a moment and thought
of what Justin had just said. Her face paled. “Lucas, your grandfather…”
“Instead of worrying about me and Jessica, why don’t you think about how to deal with Louis’ mistress?
If her son got into this house, would you live a happy life?”
Lucas didn’t feel like discussing his parents’ marriage. Of course, he didn’t want Rebecca to mind his
business, either.
Still, as Rebecca’s son, Lucas wanted her mom to stay tough.
Even if Rebecca’s family was waning, it still had its clout. Rebecca had plenty of dowries back then.
After getting married, she never lived a luxurious life and even became deeply religious, so she must
have a great sum of fortune, enough to support her life even if she left the Thomas family. Lucas didn’t
understand why she hung in.
However, Rebecca didn’t think that way. She thought Lucas was despising her. Rebecca’s face palednovelbin
