Jasper and Alyssa were alone in the room after Landon left. Alyssa had learned from Xavier thatJasper had coughed up a significant amount of blood earlier that day, and this news deeply troubledher.

“If you feel sorry, you should take your medications on time! Why kick a fuss?” She tried to calm herself
down and withdrew her hand from his grip. “Are you a baby or what? Do you need me to feed you your
medications?”
“No, that’s not it,” explained Jasper. He swallowed in frustration and whispered, “I couldn’t think of any
other way to see you, Alyssa. I just wanted to meet with you.”
“Now that I’m here, can you please take your medications?” Alyssa questioned.
Jasper lowered himself despite his usual aggressive and authoritative behavior, but that did not swayher.
She recalled Liam and Sean’s warning and felt a growing aversion and impatience toward Jasper.
She glanced at her wristwatch and urged him, “Hurry up and take your medications. I need to go hometo
Belbanks. We don’t often have Liam back for dinner. I don’t have time to waste on you!”
Her harsh words stung him, and he clenched his fists. She had once been his caring wife, but now her
patience for him had worn thin.
He had no one to blame but himself for her change. He regretted his past behavior to no end.
