Chapter 126

However, the bullet did not hit Axel.

“Ugh. It hurts…” Alyssa, who had shown up from nowhere, hugged Axel tightly. The bullet had

hit her in the left shoulder.

Although Landon had only fired off a wax bullet, it had caused severe damage.

Alyssa was drenched in sweat and trembling. Even so, she would not let go of Axel no matter what

happened.

Jasper’s eyes widened in shock. His heart sank, and he felt as though he was falling from a high

place.

All the pain in his body was nothing compared to the blow he received when Alyssa shielded the

attacker.

She might be his ex–wife, but when she saw her ex–husband attacked, the first thing on her mind

was to protect the assailant who’d almost beaten him to death.

“Alice White, how could you do this to me?” he seethed. What she had done was outrageous. She

was technically the accomplice to the attacker.

“Lyse!” Axel looked at Alyssa frantically and held her frail shoulder. When he checked his hand, it

was stained with her blood.

Taking a sharp breath, he felt an immense hatred and heartache in him.

“Landon Harper, I will kill you-”

Stunned, Landon let go of the simulated gun. He didn’t have time to react to Alice’s suddenappearance. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have fired the bullet.

“Axel Alyssa lay limply in Axel’s arms and rested her head on her shoulder. She said through grittedteeth, “If… If you want me to call you my brother… get away from here, right now! I’ll never forgive youotherwise.”

“But, Lyse …..”

Alyssa glared at him and shoved him away. He felt a shot of pain through his heart. It dawned on. himthat he had truly angered Alyssa this time. If he refused to listen to her, she might never see

him as her brother again.

He had no choice but to flee the scene and contact Jonah to send Alyssa to the hospital.

Alyssa sighed in relief after Axel left. She ignored the wound on her shoulder and checked on

Jasper

“Mr. Harper, get us an ambulance. They both need medical attention”

“But you’re hurt too! You need medical attention Landon’s voice broke. He was filled with guilt.

“I know my body well. I’ll be fine.” Fighting against the pain, she reached out to Jasper to check

his condition.

“You don’t have to fake it, Alice. Get lost.” Panting while lying on the ground, Jasper had a look of

anger in his eyes.

He hated that she had helped the assailant flee the scene, but more than that, he worried greatly

about her injury and wanted her to receive medical attention as soon as possible.

“I’ll get out of your way after I check on you.” She lowered her gaze and insistently touched his leg.

to check for any broken bones

His good–looking face was bruised, and blood was oozing from his lips. The pristine suit on him

was now dirty and stained.

How could she not feel bad for him? She was frustrated by Axel, who had gone too far this time.

“I want you to… get lost. Got it?” Worried and furious, Jasper bellowed at her.

“No! You have some old injuries. I can’t take it lightly. I will make sure you’re okay before I leave,”

she yelled back with worry.

He examined the stern look on her lovely face. Doubt arose in his mind.

How did she learn about his old injuries? Did Landon tell her about it?

Soon, the ambulance arrived and sent Jasper and Landon to the nearest hospital for medicaltreatment. Thankfully, Jasper suffered from minor scrapes. The fight did not make his old injuries flareup, much to Alyssa’s relief.

Landon stayed by Alyssa’s side at the hospital, except when the doctor extracted the bullet from

Alyssa’s shoulder.

“How was it? Is the injury deep?” Upon seeing her pale face when she exited the treatment room,

-his heart leaped to his throat.

She smiled and shook her head. “I received a few stitches. No big deal.”

“How is that not a big deal?” His heart almost stopped. Frozen on the spot, he grappled with

immense guilt. “Will it lead to any sickness, paralysis, or long–term effects? Alice, you mustn’t lie

to me. Tell me the truth!”

“Pfft.” She found him ridiculous and poked fun at him in good nature, “You’re way too serious to

What would you do about that?”

I'll marry you

She glared at him. “What?”novelbin

He gulped and choked back on tears. Then, he declared in a hoarse voice, “I will take responsibility.Alice, if you’re crippled, I will marry you and treat you well.”
