Chapter 1062

Just then, someone knocked at the door. Betty’s sickly, sweet voice floated through. “Are you in there,Dad?”

“Come in.”

Betty opened the door and walked in with a plate of snacks. She was smiling widely.

“I’m sorry for causing you trouble today. I specially prepared some of your favorite fruits and treats toseek your forgiveness. Please don’t be angry at me anymore, okay?”

Betty set the plate on the table. She then went over to Javier, intending to act spoiled like she used towhenever Javier got angry at her for causing trouble.

But this time, Javier stopped her with a raised hand.

“I hope this is the last time you ever misbehave in a manner unbefitting someone of your status. You’reMs. Betty Beckett, not some rich, disrespectful warlord. You have to behave in a classy manner.Otherwise, how would you be any different from a mad woman?” Javier chastised.

Betty’s arms were left hanging awkwardly in mid-air. Her smile was dry and pitiful. “Yes, Dad. I won’tmisbehave again.”

Javier said nothing else. He didn’t even eat any of the snacks Betty brought.

“We’ll be attending the horse racing event in a couple of days, Dad. Didn’t you say I looked good in myriding habit before? I had a set customized for you. The tailor just brought it over. Why don’t you godownstairs and try it on?” Betty asked.

She tried her best to appease Javier as his anger toward her hadn’t. completely dissipated.novelbin

“I think it’s best you don’t attend the race this time, Betty,” Javier said. lightly.

“What?” Betty gasped. She immediately stomped her feet angrily. Why not? You bring me there everysingle year!”

“This year is an exception.”

“Why?” Betty demanded, her face beginning to crumple in anger. “All the rich socialites and heiresseswill be there. How could you not bring me?”

“I’ll be bringing Lauren to this year’s races.” Javier looked down, not even sparing a glance at Betty.

“How could you do that?” There was a loud, droning noise in Betty’s head.

“Why can’t I? Lauren is my daughter and a member of our family too,” Javier responded.

When he looked at Betty now, there was a coldness in his eyes that had never been seen before.“Plus, you’ve already been to the races. for so many years. You must be bored of it by now. Lauren hasnever attended the event, and many people in Solana City don’t know her well.

“From now on, I’ll give Lauren more chances to make a public appearance. It’s only fair.”

Fair?

Javier had neglected Lauren for more than a decade, but here he was suddenly bringing up the issueof fairness?

“What is it? You don’t seem very happy.” Javier cocked an eyebrow. noun’t you Do Luminy vurunusnunny her, being her big sister and all?”

“It’s… it’s not that, Dad… Lauren is autistic. What if she has a meltdown at the races when you bringher there? How could she handle it all?” Betty stammered.

“You don’t need to worry about that. Mr. Harper will be taking good care of her.”

Betty flushed red and paled at the same time. She had nothing else to say now.

“You can leave now. I have some things I need to do,” Javier said.

Betty’s expression was stiff and pale. When she turned to leave, she ground her teeth, her eyes boilingwith rage.
