Chapter 705

Now, Gwen was shaking even more violently. She huddled in Sean’s embrace and said, “How is

this fair? How could Carol become embroiled in this when it was so difficult for her to escape the

Morrison family?”

Sean patted Gwen’s back gently and sighed soundlessly.

The rest of the night passed in silence, and none of them slept. Sean and Gwen didn’t leave,

keeping vigil in Caroline’s apartment.

The next day, when Caroline woke up and found her place filled with people, she was taken aback with

shock. “Why are you guys here?”

Caroline didn’t have an inkling of what had happened last night at all.

Seeing Caroline awake, Gwen lost it. Tears streamed from her eyes. “Carol, you’re awake. How do

you feel now?”

Sitting upright in bed, Caroline shifted her suspicious gaze from Kirk to Gwen “What happened to novelbin

me?” She thought that she must have sweated a lot, considering how sticky she felt all over.

Gwen’s eyes turned red again as she quickly turned to look at Sean.

Sean shot Caroline a smile. Then, he said to Kirk, “We’re going outside. We’ll leave things here to

you.” He dragged Gwen out of the room

With that, only Caroline and Kirk were left in the bedroom.

Confused, Caroline looked at Kirk. She was wearing a faint smile as she asked, “What’s up with

everyone, Kirk? Why do you all look so grim?”

Kirk sat by Caroline’s side. After a night with no sleep, there were bruises under his eyes. Seeing

him like this, Caroline started getting worried.

“I found out what Mr. Morrison Senior said before he died.”

Caroline’s expression changed drastically.

“I also know why you’ve been having nightmares lately.”

Caroline hurriedly said, “Kirk, don’t worry. I won’t leave you.

Kirk started to laugh lightly. Even so, his eyes were filled with pain. “Darling, listen to me.”

Caroline could only shut her mouth.

I’ve hired a psychiatrist to see you.”

Caroline sat quietly, looking at Kirk, waiting for him to finish speaking.

After a long silence, Caroline nearly began to wonder if there was anything more to it. Kirk spoke up

again, “The process will be very painful. If you can’t take it…”

Caroline clutched Kirk’s collar and interrupted him. “If I go for treatment, does that mean I won’t be

haunted by nightmares anymore? Does it mean I won’t be haunted by guilt anymore..

Caroline’s voice grew softer, but the strength with which she held Kirk’s collar became greater.

“It’s not that I don’t want to do anything to make up for the fact that Grandpa died because of me. It’s

that … I really don’t want to leave you … Kirk, am I very selfish?”

As Caroline spoke, she started to cry. All the pain and resentment she had pushed down started to

overflow.

“I’ve been having nightmares nearly every night. I dream of Grandpa saying that I’m heartless. That, if

you weren’t here, I would have been with Eddy long ago. But I have you, and I don’t want to

leave you.”

Outside the door, Gwen felt her heart breaking as she heard Caroline’s heart wrenching sobs. She

wanted to go inside, but Sean stopped her. She could do nothing but stay by the door, feeling her

anxiety burning within her.

In the room, Kirk was holding Caroline by the waist, letting her cry to her heart’s content. Her

tears soaked into his shirt.

Caroline was suffering so much pain, but she wasn’t the only one. Right then, Kirk had to give

Caroline the support she needed.

“How can that be?” Kirk held Caroline and spoke like he was coaxing a child. “No, you’re not

selfish, Carrie. A selfish person would never call themselves selfish.”
