Sean replied, “Something must have happened to Caroline. I’ve got to make a trip there. Be good and
rest. Wait for me to get back.”
But Gwen had already gotten out of bed. “I’m going with you.”
Sean wanted to say something further against it, but Gwen was quickly getting dressed. Left with
no other choice, Sean brought Gwen along to Caroline’s apartment.
When they arrived, Sean immediately asked Kirk, who had come to open the door, “What happened to
Caroline?”
Kirk’s expression was very solemn. “She got a fever after we got home.”
“A fever?” Sean passed Kirk a thermometer from the first–aid kit. Then, he checked Caroline’s eyes,
finding them strangely red.
His heart skipped a beat, and a bad feeling grew in his stomach.
Caroline suddenly opened her eyes. Her reddened eyes stared right at Sean, making him jump.
