Chapter 143

Lilac knew it was hard for some member of the pack to see her as their future luna, more when theceremony between her and Hunter had not been held, she was well aware that most of the packmember thought their alpha would find another woman.

After all, he was not a celibate man either and he had that record on him. Not to mention people knewGrace and Kellan’s family longer than they knew Lilac. They must be preferred her if this incident didn’thappen, added that to the fact they disliked an outsider like Lilac. She was not a lycan, which could besaid that she didn’t belong here.

“Did Mira bother you?” Darren asked when he saw Lilac was a little bit out sp acing out, as if there wassomething that she was thinking deeply.

“Uh?” Lilac shook her head and then smiled. “No.” There was no way she would tell what was in hermind right now, because it was a little bit messy.

She didn’t think much about it when she talked to luna Jasmine, but now her words affected her, as if ithit her deepest insecurity and she couldn’t shake it off no matter how hard she tried.

If the sacred mate bond couldn’t keep Aiden to be loyal to her, what would happen if there was none?Just like what happened between her and Hunter. Everyone knew that the alpha could find

any

women that he liked.

Was his nice treatment all this time because he still liked her? Aiden treated her nicely too in thebeginning, as if he could die if they were separated, as if he couldn’t live without her, but then lookedwhat he had done?

Would Hunter be like that too a year from now?

Lilac simply couldn’t imagine the heartbreak she would suffer then. She didn’t have anyone here andMira had made it very clear to her that she didn’t belong to this place, if she didn’t have Hunter thenshe wouldn’t have anyone.

Once again, she would return to her routine. To where she was when she was still in the Golden Clawpack. An insignificant person. It was Aiden back then, who had lifted her from such place and now itwas Hunter.

Lilac felt like her life was only rotating around a high status man, but she had nothing to her name.

“Are you sure, you are okay?” Darren had noticed Lilac’s gloomy mood and he felt concern, after all, hehad a hunch of what Hunter was going to talk with her.

“I am sure, I am fine. Thank you! Lilac replied almost immediately it didn’t sound convincing at

all.

Darren narrowed his eyes, but he didn’t ask further because he knew it wouldn’t do any good, sinceshe had said it that she was fine then she must be fine, right?

With that in mind, the two of them continued walking toward the training ground, where the beta tookher to the strategy room, this was the place where Hunter used to give an order to the warriors, especially during war.

But right now, it was only his normal working room.

Hunter was talking to one of the warriors when Lilac and Darren entered the room and the warrior leftafter he talked about Kellan. Lilac didn’t pay close attention to what he was talking about and sit silentlynear the window, staring at the pine trees out there.

“Thank you, Darren, you can leave too,” Hunter said, making the two of them left after he talked a fewthings with his beta as well.

Once it was only the two of them, Hunter approached Lilac, whose focus was still on pine trees outthere. She looked serene and beautiful with such background.

“Have you eaten your breakfast?” Hunter asked, he sat down next to her and tucked strands of her hairbehind her ear.

“I have.” Lilac smiled at him, concealing the turmoil inside of her. This uneasy feeling was notsomething she wanted him to know.

Hunter pulled her closer and hugged her. He caressed her back and breathed in her scent. This wasvery intoxicating and if he didn’t remember there was an urgent matter he had to tell Lilac, he wouldhave laid her down on this sofa.

However, Hunter was well aware that his woman was too tired and she was a little bit off this morning.

“Something is bothering your mind.” That was a statement, not a question. “What’s wrong?” Huntercould tell that much. He even could sense it when her mood was sour. “Was the breakfast not up toyour palate?”

“Don’t be ridiculous.” Lilac giggled. She had eaten something more bland than that in her life, who shewas to complain about the pack’s food?

“I am not.” Hunter kissed her head and squeezed her body, which rewarded him with her cute moan, asshe snuggled closer against his chest. He liked this closeness between them, it felt better than anythingelse that had ever happened to him.

“So, what is this thing that had been occupying your mind?” Hunter changed his question, but it stilldemanded the same answer.

“Nothing,” Lilac mumbled.

“Someone was bothering you?”

“No.” Mira did.

“Something made

you worried?”

“No.” Yes, and it’s you.

“Don’t lie to me, Lilac. I know when you lied.” He lifted her head by pinching her chin and kissed herforehead. “I want you to communicate with me about your feeling. I can’t read your mind, but I knowsomething is bothering you.”

Knowing she couldn’t dissuade Hunter, Lilac finally gave in. “I feel so awful.”

“Mm.” Hunter kissed her cheek. “And what the cause of it?”

Lilac didn’t immediately answer him, she snuggled closer, as if she was looking for comfort from thisman. She felt helpless and hopeless, her heart felt very heavy and she hated this feeling the

most.

“There is this thing that luna Jasmine told me last night.” Lilac then proceeded to tell Hunter what lunaJasmine told her and then voiced out what had been bothering her mind. “If even the mate bondcouldn’t keep Aiden and me, what could make you stay?”

Lilac stared straight into his eyes and then realized how wrong the way she said and she became alittle bit flustered when she corrected herself.

“I didn’t mean that I can’t trust you, that’s not what I meant, I know…” Lilac talked very fast becauseshe was afraid Hunter would misunderstand what she was saying.

“Don’t worry, I understand,” Hunter said to reassure her that everything was alright. “I am fine. Youdon’t need to worry about it.”

Hunter sighed deeply and kissed her forehead again, he was looking for the right word to say becausethis topic was very sensitive and if he chose the wrong word, it would only sound insincere.

“Lilac, I have waited for you for years, for decades…” Hunter scrunched his brows. “I know, it soundsvery mess up when I have been with someone else when I am not with you, but I can say I have lovedyou for longer than you know.”
