Chapter 702

“Rayleigh, you're so stubborn. The Deragon family now is different than the one to which you used to

swear allegiance. Also, I've heard that the Deragons suddenly have a young master, who the Deragons

have even placed a bounty of three crystals on. If I were not your friend, I would have accepted the

mission already. By the way, Ms. Deragon...”

“All right. I'm calling you to ask you some questions. Please stop nagging me like my grandma and stop

intervening in the Deragons' affairs.”

Rayleigh stopped Brody from dwelling on it and secretly glanced at Jared. After all, there were some

things that he didn't want Jared to know yet. Nonetheless, he was also shocked to hear that the

Deragons were willing to offer three crystals as a reward for anyone who could capture Jared.

After all, crystals were an essential resource for cultivation and way more premium than spiritual

stones. Given that a cultivator in Transcendence Phase like Jared could use a spiritual stone for a year,

one could imagine how precious crystals were.

Jared had received some information but still didn't get a full picture after listening to Brody. Hence, he

thought he had to wait until the 15th of July to clear up his doubts.

“Feel free to ask whatever questions you have, and I'll answer you to the best of my ability,” Brody

replied.

“Do you still remember Melanie?” Rayleigh asked.

“Melanie?” Brody hesitated and did not answer for a while. Clearly, he had forgotten about her.

“Twenty years ago, you found a baby girl and asked me to raise her,” Rayleigh prompted.

After recalling the memory, Brody replied, “Oh, I remember her. Why do you want to ask about her? Did

something happen?”

“Do you remember where you found Melanie? Was Melanie alone at the roadside at the time? Did you

see her parents? Do you know where her home is?” Rayleigh hastily asked a barrage of questions.

After giving it some thought, Brody answered, “Her parents were holding Melanie when I found her.

Their parents wanted me to take care of her. When I refused, they kneeled and begged me to accept

her—”

Meanwhile, Rayleigh became frantic upon hearing that and questioned loudly, “Damn it! Didn't you say

she was an orphan? What's this about her parents asking you to take care of her?”

Rayleigh had agreed to adopt Melanie because Brody had claimed that she was an orphan. He would

have handed Melanie back to her parents if he had known she wasn’t an orphan. Since Melanie was a

baby back then, she ought to be taken care of by her parents. Moreover, Rayleigh was a male and

could hardly take good care of her.

“Why are you a bundle of nerves now? Melanie is indeed an orphan. Her parents died soon after they

gave her to me,” Brody explained.

Feeling bewildered, Rayleigh continued to question, “They died? How did it happen? Aren't you known

as the Miracle Doctor? There's no one that you can't save. Why did you watch as they were dying?”

“Melanie's parents were badly poisoned when I saw them. At that time, even God could not have saved

them. Besides, since the poison in their bodies was Mapleton's wasp venom, what could I do to save

them?” Brody responded in a displeased tone.

“Mapleton's wasp venom? Could it be that someone from Mapleton killed Melanie's parents?” Rayleigh

frowned at the thought.

“I have no idea. After Melanie's parents died, I buried them and gave her to you!” Brody yawned and

added, “I'm tired, so I'm going to continue sleeping.”

With that, Brody hung up the phone.

Rayleigh was rooted to the ground while holding the phone. Since Melanie's parents died due to waspnovelbin

venom, Rayleigh believed the murderer was someone from Mapleton. Although venomous wasps were

aggressive and deadly, the Mapletons rarely used them due to various challenges in breeding them.
