Chapter 2533 Alliance

They couldn't help but be wary when Hefe tried to get close to them by revealing such information.novelbin

Sensing the growing hostility among Jared and his companions, Hefe frantically explained, “Icouldn't afford to buy medicine. I overheard everything when I was trying to steal them from VibrantHealth Clinic. I'm sharing this because I'm looking to form an alliance with you guys. The mysticalherb grows deep in the mountains and is likely protected by spirit beasts. Without a doubt, obtainingit is going to be extremely risky. I'm alone in the group. I don't have anyone to help me if I'm indanger.”

Although Hefe's explanation made sense, Jared remained unconvinced and probed further, “Whydid you choose to ally with us? We're not the strongest ones here.”

Within the traveling party, Jared and his companions were the least conspicuous. Two men and awoman alongside a child didn't exactly inspire confidence. If one were looking to form an alliance, one would naturally do so with the strongest in the party.

Hefe let out a wry chuckle. “That's because you're the safest choice. I know that you come fromRock Village and hold a grudge against Cyan Village. I don't deny wanting to form an alliance withthe strongest group, but would they even accept me? In fact, they might even sell me out to CyanVillage. Unlike them, you won't betray me even if you don't take me in.”

His words caused the hostile aura Jared exuded to gradually dissipate. The latter no longerharbored any doubt that Hefe was telling the truth.

It was obvious that the circumstances had left Hefe no choice. The information he shared aboutBrutus was evidently not a lie.

Jared's concerns about Hefe might have eased, but his worries for what lay ahead of them began toswell.

He had no idea what sort of mystical herb Francois and the others were looking for. Nevertheless, itwas a certainty that a spirit beast was guarding something as precious as that.

Even if there were none, the powerful demon beasts that roamed the mountains were enough toturn their journey into a one-way trip.

“I knew it. There's more to the matter than meets the eye. I didn't expect Dr. Weiss to be searchingfor a mystical herb. We're in for a whole lot of trouble,” Ali said, his brows tightly furrowed.

“Ali, why don't we slip away instead of following them?”

Talk of hunting for the mystical herb deep in the mountains filled Percy with fear. The mountainrange was a forbidden area for his people after all.

“There's no escaping. We're no match for Dr. Weiss. If we were to attempt it, we would be killedbefore getting far.”

Hefe got Percy to drop the idea immediately.

Percy's face turned pale. “What should we do? Once we go deeper into the forest, we'll end upbeing eaten by the demon beasts!”

Silence was the only response Ali could offer.

Emily was overwhelmed with guilt. “Ali, Jared, I'm really sorry. Your lives wouldn't be at risk if not forme.”

“Emily, this isn't your fault. We may be searching for the mystical herb, but it's not necessarilydangerous at all. You should be more optimistic. I'm sure we'll all be fine,” Jared comforted her witha smile.

Contrary to his relaxed demeanor, Jared wasn't as upbeat inside. Deep down, he knew thatFrancois was really powerful and Brutus was stronger than all of them. He couldn't figure out whythose two wanted weaker warriors like them to tag along.

The villagers who live nearby are clearly no match against high-level demon beasts due to their lowcultivation levels. Yet Francois still took them with him. It is clear that his real goal goes beyond justneeding them as security escorts.
