Chapter 37 Are the Two of You Together?!

Chapter 37 Are the Two of You Together?!

“Of course it’s true,” Diane replied confidently. Then, she turned to Stella as the latter stared wide-eyed

at her in disbelief. “Why are you so shocked? Don’t tell me you didn’t know? That can’t be possible.

You’re pretending, aren’t you? Oh, that’s right—if Norman gets caught, all his money will belong to you.

The Waynes know nothing about offshore accounts and such—they’re all honest people, after all. They

wouldn’t even know if you transfer away all their money… You’re really too cold-blooded, Stella.”

Diane didn’t mention anything else, and she picked on Stella with that matter alone. Stella’s face turned

white as a sheet at her words while Elizabeth’s expression reddened considerably in frustration.

“What did you say? Is that true? 50… 50 million…” Elizabeth muttered under her breath as she

suddenly stepped in front of Stella. Then, she raised her free hand and landed a loud slap on her

daughter-in-law’s face.

“Very well, you b*tch. That’s why you were so reluctant when I asked you to confront Diane yourself—

you already had the money in your pocket, and you were planning to let my son go to jail on his own.

Well-played, Stella! Now that my son is in trouble, are you just going to run away after swallowing all

that money?”

Elizabeth spat bold accusations at Stella as she stood in front of her.

Stella frowned as she clapped a hand to her stinging cheek. “Don’t listen to her, Mom. Do you really

think that she’s telling the truth? I’ve never even seen the money.”

“Of course you’d never admit it,” Diane butted in and said. “That’s a huge sum of money. Considering

your close relationship with Norman, who else would he tell if not you? He even told me that he’ll flee

with you to somewhere far away!”

“Enough of your nonsense, Diane. I…”

“What did you say? Why don’t you let her check your bag and see if there’s an international credit card

inside?”

Diane quickly took control of the situation again as she pressured Stella endlessly. Meanwhile,

Elizabeth’s gaze shifted to Stella’s handbag at once.

Her handbag wasn’t huge, so Elizabeth was quick to act—she only eyed it for a second before she

dashed over and grabbed it.

In response, Stella cowered over her handbag instinctively. Elizabeth was even more persistent when

she noticed Stella’s overprotective behavior. “Hand it over and let me see,” Elizabeth demanded. On

the other hand, Diane’s eyes fell fixedly upon the lighter in the older woman’s hand.

While Elizabeth’s full attention was on Stella’s handbag, Diane took the opportunity and pounced onto

her—she put her weight onto the woman’s arm and grabbed her wrist tightly as she snatched the

lighter away from her hand.

The policemen caught on at once; they rushed forward and quickly restrained Elizabeth, taking the

lighter from Diane in the process.

“What are you doing… Let me go…”

Elizabeth screamed crazily when she finally realized what had happened, but it was too late—she hadnovelbin

already lost the battle. Now, there was no way she could go against the police.

Before long, the hazardous lighter was in the safe hands of the police.

With the risk of casualty from the lighter finally out of the way, Diane sighed in relief. However, before

she could completely relax, Elizabeth jumped at her all of a sudden.

Fortunately, she reacted swiftly and dodged just in time, so Elizabeth wasn’t able to attack her.

The policemen quickly held her back and demanded, “You best not try anything else. Come with us.”

The police were getting tired of her misbehavior as well—their tone was impatient as they tried to keep

her under control.

Meanwhile, Elizabeth struggled with all her might under the police’s restraints as she screamed at the

top of her lungs. Diane took a weary glance at the crazy woman before she said to the police, “As you

can see, this woman is awfully dangerous, sir. Please take her back and interrogate her thoroughly.”

“The two of you need to come with us to give a statement as well,” the policemen replied, and Diane

nodded in understanding. With that, the matter was resolved at last. The people inside the house let

out a breath of relief when the peril at hand had finally been dealt with.

Maria was the first to rush outside. She spewed curses at Elizabeth’s face before giving Diane a fierce

glare, blaming her for stirring up trouble and dragging their family down in the process.

In return, Diane felt rather wrongly accused by her mother. However, when she recalled the fear and

anxiety that she had caused her family due to the incident she started, guilt rose in her chest. Hence,

she didn’t argue much.

Just as she was about to make a trip to the police station and give a statement, the curious crowd of

onlookers parted as a man walked up to her.

Diane stood by her own door as Christopher approached her, staring condescendingly at the woman as

he did so. She was a little stunned by his appearance.

“W-Why are you here?”

Christopher did not answer. Instead, his eyes swept past Elizabeth and the barrel of gasoline; they

were dark and unfriendly as he said, “Didn’t I tell you to rest at home? Why are you out and about?”

As he spoke, he grabbed her wrist and dragged her toward himself.

His grip was tight, and it felt as though he was afraid that Diane would fly away at any time.

Meanwhile, Diane’s heart started racing inexplicably. She took a glance at the police before she

answered, “Let’s not talk about that for now. I need to give a statement at the police station—let me

settle the problem at hand first.”

Once again, Christopher didn’t respond. He had a slight frown between his forehead, and his eyes

were dull and emotionless. He simply glanced at the policemen before he said to them, “There’s

nothing much to record here—I’ll get my lawyer to head to the station, and he’ll take over instead. Just

take these two back with you, and my lawyer will be there in an hour.”

“Who are you?”

The police questioned Christopher directly, for they weren’t very happy with his demanding tone.

“I’m Christopher Wayne,” he snapped coldly.

There was no one who didn’t know his name in Fairview City—here, his influence was comparable to

that of a God’s.

“You’re Mr. Wayne from Evergreen Incorporated?”

The police’s faces hardened slightly as they spoke with a certain respect that one would show to a

renowned figure.

Christopher remained cold and nonchalant as he said, “Yes. Will you take those two away now? I’ll

handle it from here.”

“Of course, of course. Since you’re here, we’ll talk to your lawyer about everything. It’s no problem at

all.”

The police nodded frantically at once; Diane was speechless as she watched it unfold from the side.

Indeed, Christopher’s name was quite useful on various occasions. With just a few words, the police

complied and hastily dragged away the erratic Elizabeth along with the scowling Stella.

As she was descending the stairs, Stella let out a shriek before she clutched her belly and cried in pain.

The police weren’t sure if she was feigning it or not, but they paused for a moment before taking her

away in the end.

Diane couldn’t tell if they were headed to the police station or the hospital. Soon, she was dragged into

the house by Christopher.

“Young Master Wayne.”

George didn’t manage to meet Christopher back then. Now that he did, George took the initiative at

once and greeted the man respectfully.

Maria stood there in a reserved manner as well—the two of them used to serve the Wayne Family, so

their sense of respect for the Waynes was deeply ingrained in their bones. Thus, they didn’t dare to

speak much in front of Christopher.

Emilia was the only one who stared blatantly at Christopher with a face full of admiration.

Emilia was very little back when Maria and George used to work for the Waynes, so she didn’t

remember much about that family, much less Christopher. Naturally, she didn’t possess the same fear

and respect for him, unlike her parents.

In fact, she wasn’t afraid of Christopher at all—she gaped at him the same way a crazed fanatic would

at their idol. Right now, hearts were practically popping out of her eyes.

“You’re Christopher Wayne? Oh my gosh, are you really him?”

Diane couldn’t help but feel ashamed by her sister’s embarrassing fangirl behavior; she glared at

Emilia and warned her softly, “Emilia.”

Emilia finally snapped out of it and turned to Diane. Her eyes lingered on Diane’s face before they

landed on Christopher again. Then, she gestured toward both of them.

“Are you two… together?”

Maria and George immediately tensed up at the sound of Emilia’s words.
