Chapter 31 Really Have No Idea

Chapter 31 Really Have No Idea

Queenie Hayworth’s exquisite features froze for an instant before her red lips curled into a smile. “I’m

just caring about you.”

“Thanks, but I don’t need it.” Christopher had a smile on his face, but his deep eyes were like two ice

pools with a chilling glint and zero warmth in them.

Queenie fell silent and lowered her eyes for a moment before the faint smile on her face slowly faded.

“Chris, even though I’m back this time for the collaboration with Cavernstar Group, I actually—”

Before she could finish her sentence, Christopher’s cell phone rang on the table. Queenie stopped

speaking as Christopher picked up his cell phone. It wasn’t until she saw a sudden change in his

countenance several seconds later did she ask, “What’s wrong? What happened?”

Instead of answering her question, Christopher merely shot her a glance and got up. “I have something

else to attend to, so I’ll be leaving first. Congratulations on becoming Evergreen Incorporated’s public

relations director.” His congratulatory remark sounded as frosty and emotionless as his eyes.

“Christopher.” Queenie stood up, but Christopher had already picked up his jacket and left his seat. “If

you want to discuss work-related matters with me, it won’t make a difference to do so in the company

tomorrow,” he said. Then, he turned around and hurried off.

Queenie stood in place while staring at him from behind. She mumbled, “I came back for you, actually.”

On the other hand, Christopher made a few phone calls as soon as he left the cafe. Then, he sped all

the way to his company.

The eyes of Evergreen Incorporated’s security guards bulged out of their sockets when they saw

Christopher hurrying into the building at such a late hour. Before they could figure out what was going

on, Scott also rushed inside anxiously.

A few minutes later, Scott—who didn’t even have time to catch his breath—panted in the president’s

office and said, “Mr. Wayne, I have asked Mr. Waddington to look into it at NG Enterprise, but there

isn’t a reply yet. Those in the company have clocked off at such a late hour, so it’ll probably take some

time.”novelbin

Christopher stood in front of his desk with his hands clenched into fists. Upon hearing Scott’s words, he

smashed a fist forcefully against the hard surface of the desk. “Damn it!” He gave off a frightening aura

as he stood there, his face livid.

This was Scott’s first time seeing Christopher in such a furious state ever since he began working for

the latter. As he didn’t dare to speak thoughtlessly, he fell silent for a while. He then advised, “You don’t

have to be too worried. Since the person is demanding a ransom from you, Mrs. Wayne must be fine.”

Upon hearing Scott’s words, Christopher darted a chilling look at him. He merely told Scott that Diane

had been kidnapped without showing him the photo on his cell phone. What does Scott even know? he

thought to himself. “Is there any news from the bank yet?”

“No, not yet.” A cold sweat broke out on Scott’s forehead.

Christopher’s brow furrowed even more. He then ordered in a cold voice, “Urge them again.”

“Yes, Mr. Wayne.” It was off-duty hours, but now that there was an emergency, Scott could only do so.

As soon as he finished making the phone call, he received an incoming call. After he ended the phone

call, he said to Christopher, “Mr. Wayne, the telecommunications company just called to say that this

phone number is a temporary number that isn’t registered to anyone. However, they’ve found some

information about the last person Mrs. Wayne contacted.”

“Who is it?” Christopher’s eyes lit up.

Scott promptly answered, “It’s Emilia Cornell, her younger sister.”

“Find out Emilia’s phone number for me,” Christopher ordered.

Since he didn’t dare to keep Christopher waiting any longer, Scott immediately made the phone call.

As Scott was busy talking over the phone, Christopher’s cell phone rang. He picked it up and saw that

it was a call from Xavier. After he finished answering the call, he put away his cell phone and asked

directly, “Do you know where the Cornell Residence is?”

“It’s listed in the document.” After all, they had investigated the Cornell Family’s recent situation

previously.

“Just go to Cornell Residence directly. According to Xavier, some of NG Enterprise’s employees said

that Diane went to meet Emilia after clocking off,” Christopher said before leaving the office without

another word. When he reached the ground floor, he suddenly looked at Scott. “Tell the Finance

Department to stand by tonight and get the money ready.”

Scott was stunned for a moment before he asked in surprise, “You’re talking about 50 million, Mr.

Wayne. Moreover, the bank account that the person has provided is an offshore account. I’m afraid it’ll

be difficult to recover the money if you really have it transferred.”

Upon hearing this, Christopher, who had been walking non-stop in a rush, suddenly stopped dead in

his tracks. “In that case, what do you think we should do? Should we leave her alone?”

Scott was speechless as another layer of cold sweat covered his forehead. He thought to himself, I

didn’t mean that. I… Wait a minute. Why would my boss seem to be at a loss? Why would he take

nothing into consideration just to save Mrs. Wayne?

However, Christopher had turned around and left after throwing him an angry glance. Not daring to say

anything else, he could only obey Christopher’s orders and called the Finance Department promptly.

It’s already well into the night, and we can only transfer the money tomorrow morning. Let’s hope that

Mrs. Wayne can be found tonight.

No one knew how many red lights the Rolls-Royce Phantom jumped as it sped along the road. The

journey from Evergreen Incorporated’s building to the Cornell Residence should’ve taken more than an

hour, but it took only half an hour for them to arrive.

After knocking on the door of the Cornell Residence, Christopher shoved Maria out of the way and

burst inside, scaring her out of her wits. “W-What are you doing?”

Christopher didn’t bother talking to her, though. He simply yelled in the house, “Emilia!”

Upon hearing his call, Emilia, who had been lying in bed, hurriedly ran out of her room. However, the

instant she saw Christopher, she was totally stunned. Who is this outstandingly handsome guy? Is he

coming for me? she thought to herself. People always judged someone by their looks, so she didn’t

think that Christopher was a bad person despite the anger all over his face. Dressed in her pajamas,

she walked directly up to him without a qualm. “Who are you? Are you looking for me?”

At this moment, Maria had recovered from the initial fright and was staring at Christopher’s face. After

doing so for a while, she suddenly exclaimed, “Are you Young Master Wayne?” Indeed, she had

forgotten his face a little after so many years, but she could still recognize him if she looked closely.

Meanwhile, Christopher continued to ignore Maria. He merely stared at Emilia and asked in a cold and

serious tone, “Was Diane together with you this evening? What happened afterward? Where did she

go?”

“Huh?” Emilia was dumbfounded for a moment before she stared at Christopher with slight

disappointment in her eyes. “So you aren’t coming for me.”

“I’m asking you where Diane is.” Suddenly, Christopher stretched out his hands, clutched Emilia’s

collar, and dragged her up close to him.

Emilia was startled by this and she turned as white as a sheet. “You’re asking me about my sister.

What’s your relationship with her?”

“I’m asking you where Diane is!” Christopher was so mad that he almost went insane.

Even Scott was impatient. “Miss Cornell, where have you been with your sister this evening? Hurry up

and tell us! Stop wasting our time.”

“What happened to Diane?” Maria asked.

Christopher let out a cold snort and shook Emilia off before he stared at her.

Emilia looked at him. After some thought, she answered, “Hasn’t my sister gone back yet? No, that

can’t be right. We didn’t do anything—we just had dinner together, during which I asked her to help me

look for a job opportunity.”

“Where did you two have dinner?” asked Christopher. Once he found out where Diane was last seen,

he would be able to find her whereabouts using the surveillance cameras.

“We had dinner at…” Emilia thought for a moment. “We had dinner at a French restaurant located

below her company. I came back right after dinner.” Judging by the look on this guy’s face, he probably

couldn’t reach Diane. Did something happen to her? That can’t be possible, right? she thought to

herself.

Emilia was unsettled, but she didn’t dare to tell the truth. Diane was angry in the first place when she

helped Norman ask her out, and she’d definitely be in trouble if Norman really did do something to

Diane. Since the guy before her eyes didn’t seem like a guy to be trifled with, she felt that it was better

not to get herself into trouble by admitting to what she had done. What if something really happened to

Diane, though? No, no, no, that won’t be the case. They’re a divorced couple, so it’s not a big deal

even if they have sex. What else could possibly happen?

At the thought of this, Emilia put her mind at rest and said with more certainty, “We had dinner at the

French restaurant. We parted ways after dinner, so I really have no idea where she went.”
